About Casey Smollock
Casey Smollock is a registered nurse based in the Greater Philadelphia area. Casey believes in a whole-body approach to medicine, believing it is the only way to achieve true health. This means she hopes to incorporate lifestyle changes alongside modern medical management, ensuring her patients receive complete and customized care.
As a registered nurse, Casey Smollock’s professional life began with attending Rutgers University. Here, she earned a BS in Nursing. She graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude). Casey was also a member of several organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau and Athenaeum.
In 2019, Casey Smollock landed her first nursing position. She started working for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a SWAT medical and surgical nurse. During this time, Casey worked with several hospital departments, including pre/post-operative, pulmonary, gastroenterology, behavioral health, oncology, general pediatrics, complex care, and neurology. For the first two years of her position, Casey would rotate units every eight weeks or so, hence the reason for her broad range of experience within the hospital. In 2021, Casey became a medical surgical float pool nurse. During this time, she worked hard to improve her skillset, knowing it would result in better patient care.
Following this, Casey Smollock started working with Providence St. Peter Hospital. Her roles included charge nurse and bedside nursing in the pediatric unit. She floated to the level 2 special care nursery and postpartum unit. During this time, she cooperated with families and medical teams to develop healthcare goals. She also conducted accurate assessments of current patent status and more.
In April 2023, Casey Smollock started working as a registered nurse at Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. She primarily works in the outpatient clinic for pre/post-surgical and chronic orthopedic patients. Her responsibilities include assisting doctors with pin care, dressing changes, and phlebotomy. She also conducts assessments and history interviews.
Casey Smollock’s time as a pediatric inpatient nurse helped her realize that the United States has a reactive healthcare system. In other words, the current system isn’t focused on prevention or lifestyle modifications. Upon learning this, Casy has made it her goal to do her part to change this pattern. She wants her patients to feel informed and empowered, capable of making positive changes in their lives and health. In the long run, Casey hopes to help others combine cutting-edge medical treatments with diet, exercise, stress reduction, and education (among many other concerns).
Outside of her professional life, Casey Smollock loves hiking and traveling. It’s important to Casey that she finds ways to travel on a budget, as it lets her extend her trips and experiences. For example, Casey spent six weeks living out of her car and tent while she did a solo cross-country road trip. She would camp out every night, enabling her to see several national parks. This trip holds a special place in Casey’s heart, as it made her realize how beautiful her home country is – and how much she wants to explore the rest of it. So far, Casey Smollock has visited eleven national parks (out of sixty-three American national parks).
